
Patrick’s Day Dance and Irish Person of the Year Awards. Church Choir (as Shop Steward) and her 19 years running R.A.’s renowned annual St. Two of the legacies of which Judy was proudest was her 35 years in the R.A.

Judy helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the parish and school through her work helping to run the parish Flea Markets, 50’s Dances, New Year’s Eve Dances, Fashion Shows, 75th Anniversary Gala, Church Renovation Campaign and countless bake sales, magazine drives, book fairs, candy drives, Christmas Boutiques, wrapping paper drives, Christmas Wreath sales and Mother’s Day Plant Sales. She sat on the Pastoral Council, Liturgy Committee, Parish Mission Council and Home School Association, was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, a Girl Scout Troop Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, Class Mother, Library and School Office Aide and countless other volunteer roles…if there was work that needed to be done, Judy did it. A natural born “full time volunteer” Judy’s service to the parish and school have been legendary. eventually becoming her boss, a fact she loved to tell people! Judy was a member of Resurrection-Ascension Parish in Rego Park for over 50 years and was one of the pillars of the community. In 2001 Judy’s son Sean joined her at TMLA…. Judy found her true second home at The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica Estates where she worked as Assistant Director of Academy Advancement for the last 25 years. In 1990 Judy returned to the workforce with positions in the Office of Parish Ministry at Sacred Heart Church in Glendale and with the Futures in Education Program of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Over the next 6 years Judy was a full-time Mom to their children and became incredibly involved in her parish of Resurrection-Ascension, where her children also attended school. In 1984 Judy turned down a very lucrative promotion at New York Tel because her son Sean kept asking her to stay home…she said it was the best decision she ever made. They married in 1973 and settled in Queens, first Rego Park and then Middle Village where they made their home for the last 43 years and raised their two children Heather and Sean. she thought he meant the Beatles, he meant Doo-Wop…though an unlikely musical pairing it was love at first sight with Bob proposing to Judy 2 weeks after they met. In 1971 Judy met Bob Belon at Jimmy Burns Night Club, he asked her if she liked Rock-n-Roll…. After high school graduation Judy began an 18-year career in The New York Telephone Company as an Executive Secretary, her dream job and one she performed to perfection. Catherine of Siena parish in NYC, attended their grammar school and went on to graduate from St. Summers were spent at the beach in Belle Harbor which has always held a special place in her heart. Judy had wonderful memories of growing up with her younger sister Ellen on the Upper East Side, playing along the East River and at the playground in the shadow of the 59th Street Bridge.

Judy was the first of two girls born to John and Ellie Donoghue, immigrants from Ireland. Judy Anne Belon Judy was born on July 21, 1948, in Manhattan and remained a NYC girl at heart her entire life.
